One of my favourite markets outside of Bangkok is Tha Kha Floating Market in Samut Songkhram. When I first visited this market I didn’t see any other foreigners. It is probably the most genuine floating market that you can find in Thailand. However, the real farmers’ market is only held on the 2nd, 7th and 12th days of the waxing and waning moon. This is when the local people come by boat to Tha Kha to buy and sell produce. The other market is a weekend one for tourists and is not as crowded. The best time to visit is when the farmers’ market takes place at the weekend and there could be as many as 100 boats on this small canal. The pictures on this page are of the “double” market.
