Thai Buddhists start their Songkran celebration by getting up early to offer alms to monks. This happens at temples all around Thailand on 13th April. Many cities also organize mass alms giving events on this day. These photos were taken in my hometown of Paknam. In Bangkok, a similar event takes place on Sanam Luang. After chanting and offering alms to monks, people then pour rose scented water on Buddha images and the hands of their elders.
