The Ratchaprasong intersection lies at the heart of the main shopping district in Bangkok. It is surrounded by some of Thailand’s biggest shopping malls and well known five star hotels. But, it is also the spiritual home of eight Hindu deities. The most well known, of course, is The Erawan Shrine, which is prominently situated at the intersection. Other shrines are nearby. On New Year’s Eve this year, a parade of these eight deities took place along Ratchadamri Road from Lumpini Park to CentralWorld, where they were put on display for people to worship. The deities in the parade were: Indra (Amarin Plaza), Trimurthi (CentralWorld), Naraya on Garuda (InterContinental Bangkok Hotel), Naraya on Seven Headed Serpent (Royal Thai Police HQ), Phra Prom Erawan (Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel), Ganesha (CentralWorld), Lakshmi (Gaysorn), and Uma Devi (Big C).
